I like figuring out how things work a little too much
My job is product, living somewhere between what people need, what the business can support, and what engineers can actually build, and translating between all three.
Give me something complicated and I naturally start taking it apart in my head. Who uses it? What are they trying to accomplish? Where does information come from? Where does it go? What depends on what? What happens when this breaks? Why are we doing this manually? Why does this take seven steps? And why, exactly, has everyone accepted that this is just how it works? That instinct has followed me through my entire career.

I have too many hobbies. That’s the way I like it
Over twenty years married, five kids, and two grandkids, and counting. Most of what I know about patience, prioritization, and losing an argument gracefully, I learned by having 2 teenagers, a toddler, and twin infants in the house at the same time.
I play bass in a 90s cover band. We are exactly as good as that sentence implies, and we have a great time being that good. It’s the other place I get to be part of something that only works if everyone actually listens to each other, which turns out to be most of my job description anyway.
I’ve got a truck I’m perpetually in the middle of fixing, a garden that mostly grows optimism, and a shelf of half-painted miniatures that will likely stay half-painted forever. This isn’t a cry for help, it’s just how I’m wired. I love it that way.

AI changed the size of the workshop
For most of my career, I could take an idea surprisingly far myself. I could research it, design it, map the experience, build the business case, create the brand, and define how it should work. Eventually, though, software required handing the plans to an engineering team.
AI changed that.
Now one person with enough judgment, curiosity, and accumulated context can move much further from idea to working product. That has been an unusually good fit for the way I already work. The interesting part isn’t that AI can write code. It’s that the distance between understanding a problem and testing a solution has collapsed.
That changes what’s possible.
